Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids ( ω3-PUFAs) are known to inhibit carcinogenesis, tumour growth and metastasis, whereas omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids ( ω6-PUFAs) stimulate their effects. The FAT1 gene of C. elegans encodes aω3-desaturase that catalyses the conversion ofω6-PUFAs toω3-PUFAs, increasing the amount ofω3-PUFAs. Fat-1 Stable FaDu Cell Line expresses the full-length FAT1 gene from C. elegans through stable transfection. These cells are applicable for studies investigating the effects of endogenousω3-polyunsaturated fatty acids.
